A field of medicine concerned with the study, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness by utilizing medication to treat the mental and behavioral health disorders.
What is Medication Management?
Medication Management is when a licensed professional prescribes, monitors, and adjusts medications for mental health disorders.
What Type of Medication is Prescribed?
Depending on the client's needs, our physician assistant may prescribe medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, stimulants, or mood stabilizers.
Who can Prescribe Medication?
Psychiatric care providers are licensed medical professionals. Clients can either see a medical doctor, an advanced nurse practitioner, or a physician assistant.
What to Expect for Psychiatric Medication Management Appointment
1. Evaluation: Establishing your mental health concerns, assessing your current mental state, and making a proper diagnosis.
2. Prescribing Medication: Based on your current state and if a possibly prescription will benefit you.
It is crucial to take all prescriptions as prescribed.
3. Monitoring You Response to the Medication: Once you start taking the prescription it is important to observe your body's reactions, as well as your emotions, thoughts, and moods.
4. Adjusting Medication if needed: When you are first prescribed you maybe in a trial and error stage with the medication prescribed to you. You may not see any improvement initially and we may need to make an adjustment to certain medications in order for you to notice the effects or change the prescription completely. It is completely normal for certain medications to not work with certain individuals. Make sure to trust the process, stay observation, and be truthful.
One of our dedicated staff members will reach out to you after 30 days from receiving
your prescription to see the effectiveness and if anything needs to be adjusted.
5. Additional Forms of Treatment: Medication is not a one stop shop for treating mental health disorders. We recommend in addition to being prescribed medication to seek counseling services. Medication can help reduce your symptoms, while counseling can teach you skills to manage them.

Megan Grande, PA-C is a Board Certified Physician Assistant. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a Master’s degree in Physicians Assistant Medicine from Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She has a passion for learning and has become a trusted medical professional. She is currently enrolled at Rocky Mountain University, working toward her Doctorate in Medical Science with a Psychiatry emphasis. She is licensed to practice in Texas, Nevada, and Arizona. She comes to Spring Grove Counseling with more than a decade of experience as a Physician Assistant, working in emergency medicine, family medicine, concierge care, and psychiatry.
